SPRINGFIELD – The spring campaign of the 40 Days for Life begins Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22 and runs through Sunday, April 2. The pro-life spring campaign coincides with Lent. The ecumenical effort relies on peaceful, prayerful witness in front of the Western Massachusetts Health Center of Springfield, operated by the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.
Reports state more than 22,000 babies have been saved from abortion since the launch of the international campaign in 2007. Locally, organizers report they know of at least 26 babies who have been saved.
People can sign up with their parishes or as individuals to cover hours in front of the clinic. “We are looking forward to an active 40 Days for Life campaign this spring, a campaign of prayer and fasting but also an increased participation in public witness,” said Father Daniel Pacholec, the director of pro-life activities for the Diocese of Springfield.
“We’d like to encourage more people to sign up on the 40 Days for Life website, invite a friend and offer an hour or two of public witness and prayer, exercising our freedom as citizens of various faiths to witness to the value of unborn human life,” said Father Pacholec.
Springfield Bishop William D. Byrne will also be leading people in prayer downtown throughout the campaign.
