Cheryl Nelson, 75 passed away unexpectedly on June 4. Cheryl was the daughter of Francis J. Rosso and Sally Rosso (Zeleinski) She graduated from Agawam High School in 1964. After high school, her first job was as a secretary for Mass Mutual Insurance. It was during that time that she met her future husband Philip. After the birth of her two children, Mat and Lori, she was a stay-at-home mom. Once they grew, she then worked in retail and remained in that field for over thirty years. It was during that time that she went on to get her associate's Degree in Liberal Arts from Northern Essex Community College. Upon retiring from retail, Cheryl realized she found her niche in substitute teaching for the Westfield Public Schools.
Cheryl leaves behind her devoted husband Philip of nearly 55 years of West Springfield and two cherished children, Mathew and his wife Megan of Wilbraham and Lori of West Springfield, and two beautiful grandchildren, Emma and Kyle of Westfield. Cheryl also leaves behind a brother Brian Rosso and his wife Tina of Glastonbury, CT, and her niece and nephew Alexander and Ashley.
Cheryl’s family was her life and she enjoyed spending her holidays and vacations with them at Hampton Beach, in New Hampshire, and on Cape Cod. She also enjoyed shopping, eating out, spending time with her cats, and going to the casino. Cheryl was an excellent cook. She could cook almost anything and loved to make Italian food. An amazing wife, mother, and grandmother she will surely be missed by her family and friends.
Calling Hours will be Friday, June 10th from 4 to 6 pm at Toomey O'Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., W. Spfld. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 11th at 10 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 63 Pine St., W. Spfld. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to donate in her name to the Dakin Humane Society, 171 Union St., Springfield, MA 01105
